Noah Found Grace

A continuation of thoughts from The Door Standing Open. . .

“And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.” (Genesis 6:5-8)

Following The Door Standing Open portion in Part 65 of J Preston Eby’s series on The Book of Revelation, there is a section titled "A Voice As A Trumpet" where Eby says that the word given to the patriarch's during their particular age or circumstances is not the same word the Father is giving us today, but "there is a proceding word, a right now word, a present truth, and that proceding word is going back and gathering up every preceding word, swallowing it up, and summing it up, into the fuller revelation for God's people in this great New Day of the Lord.  God is saying something NOW, and His word for today is greater than any word He has ever sent to His people."  I believe this wholeheartedly!  The Word of God is timeless and without limitation. Thus, there is a message in the scriptures for every generation, should their eyes be able to see it.

When I was first beginning to be brought out of the from the Harlot Church system some 12 years ago, an Apostolic neighbor of mine was standing in front of me holding a Bible in the palm of his hand when suddenly, I saw the Bible expand up and down as though it had taken a deep breath!  Immediately thereafter, it started "beating" like a heart! I was so taken aback by this, that the man said to me, "You saw it, didn't you?"  I sat there in a state of complete and utter shock - first of all because of what I had just witnessed, and secondly because the man knew exactly what it was that I had seen!  I am telling you this because the long awaited Day of this Living and Breathing Word of God becoming a reality in my life has only presented itself to me just recently!  For the first time ever, the Father has pulled back the veil on my carnal mind so that I could see that it was NEVER an EXTERNAL FORCE that INFLUENCED my thoughts, but an INTERNAL one that had been there from the beginning. . .and it was the VERY SOURCE OF DEATH!

Enter Noah. . .

The name NOAH (nōaḥ) [H5416] literally means: REST.

NOAH comes from [H5118] (nûaḥ) meaning: RESTING PLACE.

The root word for H5118 is H5117 (also, nûaḥ) meaning:

  1. TO REST

  2. TO SETTLE, RESIDE, REMAIN

  3. TO SET ONESELF DOWN

  4. TO MAKE QUIET

  5. TO OBTAIN RELIEF

  6. TO OBTAIN REST

When Noah's Ark came to REST on the mountains of Ararat, the Hebrew word used in Genesis 8:4 (“rested”) is H5117.  This is what’s called a Hebrew “pun” or play on words: Nōaḥ nûaḥ.  So then, here is the picture God wants you to see: the Ark which Nōaḥ built came to nûaḥ (REST) upon the mountains of ARARAT [H780] meaning: THE CURSE IS REVERSED.  Now, when Lemach named NOAH back in Genesis 5:29, he did so saying, "Out of the GROUND that Yehovah CURSED, this one shall bring us nûaḥ (RELIEF) FROM OUR WORK, and FROM THE PAINFUL TOIL OF OUR HANDS."  This Ark coming to nûaḥ on the 17th day of the 7th month (Tishrei) is no mistake, for it is the THIRD DAY of what would later be known as the Feast of Tabernacles

This is just one example of the hidden cords which bind one end of the Bible to the other.  As I pointed out in my notes at the bottom of The Door Standing Open, the waters that covered the earth at the beginning of creation are symbolic of the heaviness or weight of mans burdens which he has placed upon himself due to his poor decision making and lack of understaning of God’s Word - here, resulting in the earth being filled with every kind of evil.  Early on in my Christian experience, I was taught that the waters of Noah’s flood were a type of “baptism” or “cleansing” of the earth.  As we well know, water baptism does not rid oneself of sin, but is an outward symbol for the removal of the judgment of sin that one receives upon placing their trust in Jesus.

Genesis 8:6 - 40 days after the FLOOD waters abated, Noah sends a RAVEN out which goes "TO AND FRO UPON THE EARTH" until the waters of the flood were DRIED UP.  The imagery here is of the carnal mind that is still free to roam our "earth” as did “Satan” (a.k.a., the carnally minded man) in Job 1:7. . .“And the Lord said unto Satan, Whence comest thou?  So Satan answered the Lord, and said, From going to and fro upon the earth, and from walking up and down upon the earth.”  The RAVEN is just one of several UNCLEAN BIRDS outlined in the Law of Moses. . .then, in Revelation 18:2 we read this, “And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.” So the question becomes this. . . If indeed the RAVEN is symbolic of the habitation of devils and of every foul and hateful spirit that God calls “carnal thinking”, why send this particular bird out first?

Genesis 8:8-9 - “Also he sent forth a DOVE from him, to see if the waters were abated from off the face of the GROUND; But the DOVE found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned unto him into the ark, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth: then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled her in unto him into the ark.”  The DOVE is symbolic of the Holy Spirit, only this dove FINDS NO PLACE TO SET HER FOOT because although the FLOOD waters have "dried up" (subsided), the RESIDUE of the water is still very much saturating the GROUND - as with the “earth" of Genesis 1:1-2. . .”without form and void”. . .or, in a state of chaos with no LIFE in it.

Verses 10-12. . .”And he stayed yet other seven days; and again he sent forth the dove out of the ark; And the dove came in to him in the evening; and, lo, in her mouth was an olive leaf pluckt off: so Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth. And he stayed yet other seven days; and sent forth the dove; which returned not again unto him any more.”  Notice the number of days between Noah sending the DOVE out again. . .SEVEN and SEVEN, the DOVE returning with the OLIVE LEAF on the second trip, then not returning at all after being let loose a THIRD time. . .perhaps this is symbolic of the DOVE overtaking, or subduing the RAVEN?

Verse 13 - Noah REMOVES THE COVERING. . .the VEIL. . .from off of the Ark.  Then, ond only then, is the Earth dry enough for righteous Noah and his family to WALK UPON (. . .just as the Israelites would later walk through the Red Sea and also the Jordan “upon DRY LAND”).  What a Day it is when we are able to WALK UPON A DRY LAND instead of dredging through the muck and mire of a mind saturated with carnality!!

Isn’t it marvellous, the imagery being painted here for us here?  And yet, I have to stop and ask myself. . .What is it that the Father is revealing for us TODAY through these stories of old?  What is it that is COMING ALIVE and BREATHING OUT THE BREATH OF GOD for US in this NEW DAY?

If you take the time to read the verses (and some of the surrounding passages) where H5117 appears in the Bible, you will be amazed by the UNIVERSAL story being told throughout the Old Testament!  Nûaḥ is literally EVERYWHERE!!  Story after story, descendant after descendant, patriarch after patriarch are all speaking of the SAME STORY OF GOD’S REDEMPTIVE REST revealed on a higher level of understanding in each generation!  And, not only that, but the evidence of God’s Nûaḥ can be seen on into the New Testament through the Greek word for “rest” anapauō (ἀναπαύω) [G373] which is closest in meaning to G1515 eirēnē (εἰρήνη). . .the Greek word for PEACE

G373 anapauō (ἀναπαύω) : REST (4x), REFRESH (4x), TAKE REST (2x), GIVE REST (1x), TAKE EASE (1x)

  1. to cause or permit one to cease from any movement or labour in order to recover and collect his strength

  2. to give rest, refresh, to give one's self rest, take rest

  3. to keep quiet, of calm and patient expectation

G1515 eirēnē (εἰρήνη) : PEACE (89x), ONE (1x), REST (1x), QUIETNESS (1x)

As foretold to David in 1 Chronicles 22:9, “Behold, a son shall be born to thee, who shall be a man of REST; and I will give him REST from all his enemies round about: for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give him PEACE and QUIETNESS unto Israel in his days.”  And who should Solomon be a type of, other than The Prince of Peace Himself, Christ Jesus!

“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6) and, notwithstanding. . .“And she shall bring forth a Son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:21)

So, in answer to the question of what God is saying to us TODAY, I imagine it has something to do with one of the passages of scripture where H5117 is found - Joshua 1:15, “Until the Lord have given your brethren rest, as he hath given you, and they also have possessed the land which the Lord your God giveth them: then ye shall return unto the land of your possession, and enjoy it, which Moses the Lord's servant gave you on this side Jordan toward the sunrising."  Here, the Israelites were told to get ready, for in THREE DAYS they were to cross over the Jordan into the Promised Land, only two and a half of the tribes. . .Gad, Ruben and half of Manasseh, had previously refused (see Numbers 32), asking Moses that their inheritance be given to them before they were to cross over, saying in verse 19, “For we will not inherit with them on yonder side Jordan, or forward; because our inheritance is fallen to us on this side Jordan eastward.”  Without even so much as taking a glimpse of the land God had chosen for them, these men relied on what they saw with their owns eyes - a land to the east of the river that was pleasant to the eye, “good for raising cattle and building cities”.  After some negotiation, Moses finally relents under one condition: that the men from these tribes cross over long enough to help the rest of the tribes fight and once the others had inherited their portion of the land, then the men could return to their chosen inheritance on the other side of the river.  The men agree and so Moses allows them to build sheep folds and dwelling places for their women and children, as well as fences to keep the enemy from attacking while the men are away fighting.  The women and children never cross over the Jordan into the Promised Land, and none of their families ever come to reside in the Land of Canaan. The men cross over only long enough to aid the others but as soon as the first opportunity comes along, they leave the Promised Land for the one of their own chosing.  Oh, but they are coming home!  Blow the trumpets in Zion and prepare the fattened calf!  Bring out the finest robes and the rings of gold, for the prodigal sons are coming HOME!

All God’s sons are coming home —

Home to the Father, home to the throne,

All God’s sons are coming home!

All creation is coming home,

All creation is coming home —

Home to the Father, home to the Son,

All creation is coming home!

Coming home, coming home,

Never more to roam;

Open wide thy arms of love,

Lord, ALL thy sons are coming home!
